Frequently Asked Questions

Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?

I am currently only offering in home sessions which means I travel to you, and when I am done I leave and you are not needing to get into the car and drive anywhere so the work has time to integrate.

With THAI massage, you will be clothed at all times, and will be asked to wear loose clothing so you may have freedom of movement. If you do not have such attire, you will be asked to wear a pair of pants from Thailand that are considered traditional wear. I may use shea butter on your feet, hands, neck but all the rest of the work will be performed over clothing.

What will the sessions be like?
Depending upon the goals of the session, we together will decide upon the best form of treatment. If you are seeking relaxation and stress reduction, you will determine with Joni's recommendation on the course of treatment.

If you are seeking a more holistic approach to healing, specifically from life/s stressors or traumatic stressors, we will creatively determine which type of bodywork is best,  utilizing touch therapy in a unique and individual manner. While I may also provide Thai massage, most of my work with victims of trauma will focus on the best method for each individual client, that will bring in the healing aspects of mind, body, spirit and emotions. Following the principles of Hakomi Therapy, respecting each client's need for safety first and foremost, we together will explore the goals set by each individual. What is it you would like to see change in your life? That is the significant question we will begin with.

What are the benefits of touch for trauma recovery work?
Since we all have experienced some ripple effects of trauma from the pandemic, I am mindful of this with all clients. Trauma is an attack on the physical sense of well being - a threat to survival evokes tremendous changes in the body, as well as the mind and one's emotions. After a traumatic event is over, the body often still carries the burden of the attack. Using touch and talk therapies combined, allows clients to go deeper into the healing process within a shorter period of time. Using touch provides a method to  facilitate movement of stored energy and patterns that become hard wired from a traumatic experience.

How long are the sessions?
Sessions are typically at least 1 hour - 90 minutes. Expect an additional 30 minutes on first session. Taking time to integrate the healing is an important component of this work. It is also important to plan to take time after the session to rest or relax before re entering a busy schedule, if possible. Appointment times begin as scheduled and will end in same. I may spend an additional bit of time after the session if time allows; however if you are scheduled for 60 minutes, please recognize that the session time begins when we meet.

What happens if I am late or have to cancel?  If you are late and I am notified and do have time I will provide you with the full session. However I often have a full schedule so please do not expect I will be able to extend your appointment time. If you need to cancel kindly provide me with at least 24 hour notice, unless of course circumstances are such that you cannot such as illness that day of appointment. I will charge a $25 cancellation fee if the notice is less than 24 hours, however.

Are there contraindications for receiving this work?

If you are being treated by another person in the Medical Field, it is recommended you consult with them first before seeking treatment. There are some medical conditions that warrant precautions so it is imperative that you reveal your medical history.
